Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees

The central purpose for which the NOC exists is to prepare people for ordained ministry. Our aim is that at the end of their course people will be ready intellectually, pastorally and spiritually for the next step. The Northern Ordination Course Certificate covers all these aspects of the course and is required by all students for ordination or stationing in their Church. This award and the general assessment of the work of the course is monitored by an external moderator appointed by the churches.

Although all that is needed for ordination or stationing is the NOC Certificate, many students wish to gain academic awards as part of their training. This is validated by the University of Leeds.

In addition to these, some students combine their NOC studies with Research Degrees.

Awards through the University of Leeds

Since 2003 the Course is collaborating with the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, and the School of Theology and Religious Studies at Leeds University, in learning for awards in Theology and Pastoral Studies. The standard NOC curriculum leads to a Bachelor’s degree. Suitably qualified candidates may read for an MA, while students on shorter courses may gain an undergraduate or graduate Diploma. Some students who are theology graduates may also combine their NOC studies with a research degree.

Tutorial advice before and after admission to the Course guides students to the most appropriate academic award. It should be noted that reading for a higher degree does not exempt students from any part of the residential and formational programme.
